App meet stylus.

Sometimes an app (or screen) just fits a stylus perfectly.

On my Galaxy Tab 8.9 I prefer the Pogo Sketch Pro and Nomad Compose, for example. The other day, drawing on PC World machines, I thoroughly enjoyed the HP and Nomad Flex paintbrush. On the Note 2 I seem to remember liking the Wacom Feel and Dagi 501 and on the Surface RT 1 the Dagi was also my favourite.

And so on. The Jot Script goes with most things 🙂

Occasionally someone asks me why I don’t just stick with one. I’m minded to ask if they’d ask a classical painter to stick with one brush or a driver to just stick to one car… A chef to stick to one pan only, etc. I like holding a variety of styli and using the one which makes sense for the part of the picture I’m making, whether that’s outlines, colours, shading etc. I use, and love using, the Jot Script, the Nomad Compose and Flex and Mini 2, the Stylus Sock, the Pogo Connect and Sketch Pro, the Wacom Intuos, the Dagi 501 (and other flavours of Dagi too) and a good few more. There are few styli I hate and, to be honest, life’s too short for hate so I don’t bother to talk about them really. Someone else might love that stylus and that’s entirely fine.

Anyhow I drew this on the way home from work (ahem, stopping to sit for forty minutes to do so). I used Adobe Ideas – an app which I like a lot – and the Pogo Connect, which I also like a lot. It was a beautiful combination – some apps meld perfectly into the chosen stylus and though, often, I’d chop and change between the range of scribble sticks I have to hand this picture was only the Pogo Connect and I wasn’t unhappy with that choice.

I do have a clanging headache though so have taken a headache pill as well as a medicinal hot drink of ginger, lemongrass and whisky.

Three more emails to do then lights out for the night. Night 🙂

Screen sharing in PC World Guildford…

Again, but with a new name 🙂

Screen Sharing is my current new happy name for popping in and drawing on their devices. Had a lovely chat with a couple of staff members, as normal, and drew three pictures on three machines in 1 hr 45 mins 🙂

Middle one painted on a Lenovo desktop using Microsoft Paint. Top and Bottom image painted using Fresh Paint app on a Samsung Ultrabook and HP desktop respectively.

Used a range of styli: Stylus Sock, Nomad Compose, Nomad Flex, Nomad Mini 2, Pogo Sketch Pro, Pogo Connect, Muji glove and Dagi stylus.

Also on Styli…

Not all of my styli but here’s a clutch of them, the ones I had in my work bag today…

Which, bearing in mind I’ve lost a few recently ( 🙁 ) is still a bit scary. More worrying is that this is pencil case 1 of 2 and the other one has a similar amount in… Hmm… I may have a problem.

Anyhow, also on my birthday the list of styli received (the Wacom Intuos Creative being one):

also contained a Pogo Sketch Pro to replace a lost one (one of my favourites – a delicately beautiful stylus. Fragile but light and wonderful) and a Nomad Mini2 which is completely new on me. I did order a mini 1 once but it was out of stock between ordering and receiving it 🙁

Nomad Mini 2 painted on an iPad using Sketchbook app using a… well… you can guess which stylus.

Nomad Mini 2 painted on an iPad using DrawQuest app using… well… you can probably guess correctly again…

As expected the Nomad Mini 2 is excellent. A lovely shape and works well with every screen I’ve thrown it at.

I’ve already drawn the Sketch Pro but will do so again sometime soon…

I also drew a Pogo Connect with a Pogo Connect with an app which doesn’t have the capacity to connect to a Pogo Connect. Because that’s the sort of idiot I am.

Pogo Connect, Didlr app, iPad 3.

Next on the stylus list? Nothing planned…Ahem.

But I always say that. I do like the idea of the Hex3 Nota (for the Android support) and the Adonit Evernote edition (for the thin tip support…) and the… Well, I had better stop there I think. Exciting times, as always. Screens, apps and styli are a fabulous combination.
