So… In answer to the first things that spring to mind: yes they were and yes they are.
Without doubt this is the coolest iPad case on the planet, full stop.
The backstory: wifey makes things, amazing things, sometimes out of metal, sometimes out of fimo/sculpey and sometimes out of socks. I’ve not posted many as I’m intending to make a collection of the images for her in blurb book format, but she is amazingly talented and I’m lucky to live in an wonderfully creative (albeit messy) house 🙂
The other day she nicked the iPad out of the box to make me a case. That would have been a wonderful surprise apart for the fact that I then picked up the box to move it and had a near heart attack at how light it felt. Once I sussed out what had happened I felt a little calmer and when I managed to get back from work I was delighted to see a new case to care for my new baby. It’s made, in case you were wondering, from a protective layer of bubble wrap, a nice soft cuddle of fluffy cloth and a decorative layer of old cartoon socks. The ones which have served me well and can be darned no more. I like the fact they live on and, to reiterate, yes they were washed and yes, they were clean.
So: while I was excited to get an iPad in the post I’m now doubly delighted to encase it in the grooviest of coverings. The pic of the Hulk is the fourth thing I’ve drawn in Brushes; the others very sketchy and doodley things created to get my eye in and used to the feel of the screen which feels strangely resistant for some reason (quite possibly the oleophobic coating that is said to resist fingerprints, scratches and so on). It’s a completely different way or drawing which I’m both loving and growing slowly into… On the iPod touch I could be fairly tight with the lines/detail whereas on the iPad it all feels free-er, move expressive and expansive. I hope that in a years time I’ll have found the way of using it as much as I feel I have with the iPod touch… We’ll see. More on here as regularly as I can do to show how things are progressing but, for the moment, it’s time for the socks and wifey’s skills to take centre stage 🙂
So, again, wallowing in wifeys … um… wunderbarness here are a couple more of her stuffed toys she’s been into the making of. Regular readers (hi FBI special crafts unit) will know that she’s into a number of crafts and arts (generally mastering one and then giving up straight away for the next: I’m looking at you encaustic art, wire art, amigurumi, scrapbooking, chalk colouring and much more), all the while dismissing the fact that she may well be an artist. Again this site is happy to show her up for the liar she is (yeah, tell her THAT Mary Lynne 🙂 ). In as much as her little characters are very groovy (tell her that as well please, he said, cowarding out).
Also added a new brush play thing that I did after shutting down for the night (ahem) and that’s it for the day.
Did have something else I was gonna upload but… hang on! Just remembered.
Did some work last week with some kids that, I think, the world doesn’t necessarily rate sometimes… Actually they were great fun and the final project we worked on, in ways, out the far more accomplished students I work with to shame and then some. At the end of the morning we came out with a very cool animation and they’d written this on the board to say thanks. Was very touched and made it all worthwhile when, really, I’d been grumping a little about having a stupidly busy tuesday.
…ooops, forgot to add this but will add it to this post thus distracting from all in the post prior, but hey ho: one more thing… ((you know how the apple fanboy always saves a cool thing for last with a white text on black slide?))
I add this with a mixture of fear and trepidation, as well as a little pride for reasons that will become apparent in a second.
I’m very lucky enough to be married to someone who is a talented artist and creative person. SHe always deflects this, because I can ‘draw’ in a more conventional sense she always dismisses her artworks as less useful or ‘arty’ but, as the picture’ll prove, wifey’s artwork is, often, far better than mone and certainly more popular 🙁 Hence the hesitation in mentioning it. The last time I big upped her work it proved so much more popular than the stuff I was doing I wanted to move to a tent in Wales and forget about it all 🙂
Anyhow: wifey has been getting more and more into sock characters (take a sock, make a character). (Hence name). She was into amigurumi (sp?) for a while but this seems to have taken over. Pix added show the skills and how cool they look.
They do look very groovy and are some of my favourite things 🙂 as is wifey herself. Now if I could just persuade her that she is an artist…
Hmmm maybe I should have added a sock character to the parcels/quote begging letters… Ah well, too late now.
